A thank you note to my feet

Friday means pointe class with my beloved teacher Joan Liu at @balletartsnyc ! I have always hated my feet: too chubby, too chunky, to wide, not pretty enough... I haven't worn open toes shoes in forever, forget sandals. I used to look at the other girls with their little dresses and light cute sandals and think I would look like a sausage in those.

But today I want to say thank you to my feet. Despite all the hate they've suffered from me, they are sticking with me in this thing I am doing. That is, taking myself back. Claiming my right to do what I want to do. Be what I want to be. Little by little, step by step. And now that my beauty standards about my feet have been slammed with another level of impossible beauty, now I am starting to walk barefoot. Proud of their increasing strength, of how they don't fail me even when it's so painful just to exist. Seeing how far we can go, one step at the time. And today, @joanymacaroni helped me walking without the barre and she doesn't know, but what I felt must be the same fear, happiness and absolute wonder babies feel when they start taking over the world walking on their own feet. #agirlfromtheislandinnewyork
